Drumbeats & Brushstroke:
A combined music therapy and art program specifically designed for teens (13 – 18) with special needs. It is offered at the Tecumseh Road site. The program supports choice making, relationship building, and creative expression. It is an ideal program for individuals who have verbal or non-verbal communication skills, an interest in music and art, and a willingness to try new things.
Private music therapy sessions and/or adapted music lessons:
These half hour sessions take place at either location. Sessions typically start with 3 – 4 assessment sessions to determine what program goals would be appropriate for music therapy. At the end of the 3 – 4 sessions, you will receive a written program plan. This plan is discussed with you, and adapted if necessary prior to continuing. Program goals are designed around your child’s individual needs and can target areas such as expressive and receptive communication, fine and/or gross motor skills, social awareness and interaction, sensory and cognitive stimulation.
Therapy Express:
A group program specifically designed for children and teens with special needs and uses music therapy, expressive art, drama and movement to promote expressive and receptive communication, social interaction with peers, and creative self-expression. This program is run by professional therapists and practitioners with several years of experience working with individuals coping with communication and social challenges. At the end of each program, you will also receive an individual report of your child’s experience in the program. Available for preschoolers (6 and under), elementary (7 – 12), and teens (13 – 18).
