Ontario Works: The City of Windsor Office<\/strong>
\nThe Ontario Works Act, through the Province of Ontario’s Ministry of Community and Social Services provides the framework for the provision of employment and basic financial assistance to persons in need. The City of Windsor’s Employment and Social Services Department delivers Ontario Works to residents of Windsor and Essex County. Any legal resident may apply for financial and employment assistance regardless of citizenship or length of residence. This is a needs-tested program. The amount of assistance is based on the Ontario Works Act Regulations, family size, age of dependents and other income received. Everyone receiving social assistance also receives coverage for prescription drugs. Discretionary Benefits are given for certain extraordinary expenses. They may pay for surgical supplies, dental services, etc.<\/p>\n
